Welcome to the heartbeat of the Longmont Police Department. This is where it all starts. Many take the Communication Specialists for granted but until you have tried to answer ten phone lines, intercoms, 911 emergency lines, an entire shift of police officers' radio traffic, fire and ambulance radio traffic, and much, much more; then don't underestimate their jobs! The stress rate can be unbelievable. LPOA and FOP welcomes Communication Specialists into its organization. LPOA supports and assists its' members in Communications and works with them to promote a better understanding of the jobs we do. The Longmont Communication Division currently employs thirteen specialists, one supervisor, four reserves, and one director. They report directly to both the Chief of Police and Chief of Fire. They have to be calm even when dealing with life threatening calls. Each day the lives of officers, fire personnel, and the public rest in their hands. We salute their dedication and abilities. Definitely not a job for everyone. All members are trained to be EMD Providers. They complete a rigorous six month in house training course. The members also complete N.C.I.C. (National Crime Information Center) and C.C.I.C (Colorado Crime Information Center) training on the National computer. The training and computers are linked across the country in order to provide instant information on fugitives, criminal histories, drivers licenses, etc... You can contact the Communications Division through the non-emergency line 303-651-8501. If you have an emergency requiring Police, Fire, or Medical Services call 911. For a glimpse into their world

OUR SUPPORT STAFF Our Department could not function without our fantastic civilian support personnel. Especially the Police Service Technicians who service our Report Taking and Records sections. These unsung heroes provide information gathering and dissemination that makes it all work. The Community Service Officers in our Traffic and Animal Control Units take a large burden of work from Patrol freeing up valuable time for our officers to patrol their districts. Our Crime Information & Research Analyst, and the numerous administrative assistants make our day to day jobs easier. All of these outstanding civilian employees often go unrecognized for the contribution they make to this department and the community we serve. LPOA takes its hat off and salutes you all for the work you do to make our jobs easier. Police records can be contacted at 303-651-8504. |
