Since 1992 LPOA has been honoring Police Officers of our department who have given of themselves above and beyond the call of duty.  To be honored by one's brother and sister officers is the highest form of recognition an officer can receive.   Those honors have come in the form of "Officer Of The Quarter" and "Officer Of The Year".  Officers are nominated by their peers for presentation to the membership at a regular business meeting and voted on by the members present.  In 2000 the program was suspended due to administration problems within our organization.   FOP Lodge 6 recognizes that was a mistake and places the highest priority on continuing to recognize officers within our department who display outstanding and commendable performance.  Due to incomplete records available at the time of the 1st Quarterly Business Meeting, the 2002 "Officer Of The Year" was selected by the Executive Board at its' February Board Meeting.   That selection was made from a group of seven "Officers Of The Quarter" from 2002.  We are proud of the accomplishments of these brother and sister police officers and we salute each of them for a job well done.

The second quarter Officer Of The Quarter of 2004 goes to Ofc Lise DeBroy and Ofc Sandie Sanchez. They are awarded for their excellent work in in organizing this year's annual pig roast picnic.  Sandie and Lise did a fantastic job in putting together the absolutely best and successful event in the history of FOP Lodge 6.  There were over 250 attendees this year.  It was a great time for all families who attended.  A tremendous amount of work and dedication went into this project.  It would not have happened or been as successful without their involvement.

Officer Of The Year

Police Comparability

On Sunday December 21, 2003  Officers Tim Miller, Matt Cage, John Steele, Mike Stogsdill, Sara Pierce,  and Sergeants Alan Baldivia, and Mike Bell responded to 2330 Wedgewood Avenue on a report of a stabbing.  In fact the suspect was in the process of attempting to murder his girlfriend’s children. When the officers arrived they discovered that two children had been brutally stabbed. One child managed to escape the suspect and had a neighbor call 911. The other three year old child was still in the apartment with the suspect, and being assaulted. The Officers entered the apartment and encountered the bloody suspect who was still holding the bloody knife he used to stab the children.

The Officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife.  The suspect did not respond to officers commands and he confronted the officers. This was a deadly force situation.  Although justified, the officers did not immediately resort to deadly force.  The subject was tasered repeatedly, taken to the ground, struck repeatedly with a baton, and handcuffed after an extensive and violent struggle. Officers located and rescued the second victim.

Both children survived as a result of the actions of these officers. The suspect was apprehended with only minor injuries.  These officers showed tremendous restraint in a justified deadly force situation. All officers exhibited tremendous courage and skill in doing so.  They had a very difficult and combative suspect that needed to be taken into custody. They did all that was necessary to do so and all went home at the end of the day.  For this heroic team effort all of these officers have been awarded both the FOP Lodge 6’s Officer of The 4th Quarter and Officer of The Year for 2003.  Congratulations to these Officers and Sergeants!  FOP Lodge 6 honors you with this award.  We are proud to have you in our ranks!
